Cellphones today use miniature antennas that can be smaller than a grain of rice. This technology is fractal geometry. A fractal antenna uses a fractal design to maximize the length of the antenna’s perimeter; this makes it possible to have a long antenna compacted into a very small space. So, the antenna is actually very long, it is just thin and folded up. The antenna’s length is calculated by measuring every straight run between the turns, then adding up all of the measurements.

A polygon is a closed plane figure containing three or more angles and bounded by three or more straight sides. The word polygon itself means “many corners”.

The following figures are all polygons:

• A three-sided polygon is called triangle
• Rectangle and square are examples of four-sided polygons
• A pentagon is a five-sided polygon

A regular polygon is one in which all sides are the same length and all angles are equal.

A square is an example of regular polygon.

The perimeter of any polygon is simply the distance around the outside of the polygon.

### A Short Review

In a shape or object with many sides, you can just add the Lengths of the sides. Its as simple as that.

If your measurements are in fractions, that means fraction addition; if in decimals then just decimal addition.

Measurements can also be in feet-and-inches, so other math skills may be needed.

### Worksheet: Level 1

The operations used are clearly specified. Only one type of mathematical operation is used in a task.

### Worksheet: Level 1 Sample Question

Examples:
1. Whats the Perimeter of a square with 4 sides, each the Length of 2 m?
2. From the picture below write an addition sentence with the given measurements.
Note: This addition sentence represents the whole perimeter. Each side is 2 units in length

### Worksheet: Level 1 Answer Key

1. 10 m
2. 2 + 2 + 2 + 2 + 2

### Worksheet: Level 2

Tasks involve one or two types of mathematical operation. Few steps of calculation are required.

### Worksheet: Level 2 Sample Question

Example:

What`s the perimeter of a square with 4 sides, each the length of 3/4 inch?

### Worksheet: Level 2 Sample Answer

$\frac{3}{4}$
= 0.75

0.75 + 0.75 + 0.75 + 0.75 = 3
